Braking System: Safety First
With heavy traffic and fast highways in Kuwait, reliable brakes are not an option; they are an absolute necessity. "Brake Pads" (Safaif) are the friction material that clamps onto the rotors to stop the car. They wear out over time and require periodic replacement.
How to Tell When Your Brake Pads Need Changing?
- High-Pitched Squealing or Screeching: Most genuine brake pads have a small built-in metal "wear indicator." When the pad wears down dangerously thin, this tab scrapes against the rotor to make an intentionally annoying sound to warn you.
- Harsh Grinding Metal-on-Metal Sound: If you ignore the squealing, the friction material will completely vanish, leaving metal grinding against metal! This sound means you are actively destroying the brake rotor, doubling your repair costs since the rotor will need to be machined or replaced.
- Vibration or Pulsation in the Steering Wheel When Braking: This indicates that your brake rotors have warped (become uneven) due to excessive heat and uneven pad wear.
- Brake or ABS Warning Light on the Dashboard: Many modern luxury cars feature electronic wear sensors that trigger a light on your dash. It could also mean your brake fluid level has dropped because the caliper pistons have extended further to compensate for thin pads.
Maintenance Tip: We recommend having your brake pad thickness checked during every engine oil change. Never compromise on brake quality; always use genuine or OEM parts to avoid annoying squeaks and poor stopping power. At Power Garage, we offer professional brake inspection and replacement services.
